WWE 2016 Rumors: Triple H to Begin Rivalry vs. Seth Rollins at Clash of Champions?
One of the most exciting storylines in WWE's recent history is the rise of Kevin Owens as the new Universal Champion, and all the angles surrounding it on Monday Night Raw. On one hand, Seth Rollins wants to claim the title from Owens at Clash of Champions this Sunday.
On the other, a feud between Rollins and his former ally, Triple H, is looming over the whole story. Rollins is already being established as Raw's top face, while Triple H and the Authority remain as tweeners—stuck in between the face and heel roles.
The feud was originally projected to culminate at WrestleMania 33, but rumors suggest it might happen sooner than fans think. With the Clash of Champions taking place today, it looks like the Kevin Owens story is bound to get out of Rollins' direction in favor of a different angle.
Triple H takes over
There are plenty of reasons why Triple H should head the WWE in lieu of Vince McMahon. His triumph in building the New Era roster, luring independent free agents into WWE's developmental arm NXT, is worth noting. The fact that he had used these stars to fill Raw and SmackDown with the brands' best talent in years cements him as the worthy heir of the McMahon empire.
It looks like the succession is under way. Hunter and his wife, Vince's daughter Stephanie, are reportedly managing Raw and SmackDown in Vince's absence. The McMahon patriarch suffered a tear in his quad while doing heavy squats, leaving the next-in-line executives to take some of his load.
Survivor Series
With Triple H running the place, fans are enthusiastic that Hunter's achievements so far—despite notable booking mishaps—may carry over and build up the New Era to a good start. One anticipated matchup will be between him and Rollins.
Hunter cost Rollins the Universal Title when he double-crossed The Architect en route to handing Owens the belt. This built up animosity between the two, and, in effect, turned KO into a heel and Rollins into a face. Rumor has it that the WWE Universe might be seeing the two meet earlier than WrestleMania—at Survivor Series.
For this to happen, Triple H must interfere with the Rollins vs. Owens title match at Clash of Champions, which he is rumored to be planning to. Thus, he costs Rollins another shot at the belt, stoking the flames of Rollins' feud with The Authority.
