CM Punk WWE 2015 News, Rumors: Doctor Files Lawsuit Against CM Punk, Colt Cabana

Last year's podcast revelations from CM Punk could be a costly one for the professional wrestler-turned-MMA fighter as a WWE ringside doctor is filing a lawsuit against him and Colt Cabana.

The suit takes issue with a Nov. 26, 2014 episode of "The Art of Wrestling," which is the name of Cabana's podcast. Cabana, whose real name is Scott Colton, interviewed CM Punk (whose real name is Phillip Brooks) on his reasons for leaving the WWE. In the two-hour podcast, Brooks spoke publicly about his departure from the company and that one of his main reasons for quitting was alleged medical malpractice.

Brooks claimed that the WWE didn't follow proper concussion protocol, and that the ringside doctor, Dr. Christopher Amann, diagnosed a life-threatening cyst on his back as a "fatty deposit" which allegedly developed into staph infection. Brooks said on the podcast that Amann ignored the cyst because he was "lazy" and so he could get back in the ring. Brooks also claimed that Amann gave him Z-Packs, a type of antibiotic used to treat everything from concussions to the lump on his back.

The former WWE wrestler also mentioned on the podcast that a doctor from Florida removed the lump three months after he noticed it and told him that "he should be dead."

In the defamation suit filed by Amann on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Cook County Circuit Court, the WWE senior ringside physician is seeking more than $1 million in compensatory damages and an undisclosed amount in punitive damages.

Amann claims in the lawsuit that Brooks never told him nor showed him the lump on his back for diagnosis or treatment. The suit also claims that Amann never refused to treat Brooks and did not prescribe any antibiotics for the lump or any other injuries. The doctor also claims that Brooks and Colton "knowingly fabricated the false and disparaging statements" about him, knowing that they would be heard by WWE fans and the media, given their celebrity statuses.

The WWE recently released this statement in response to the allegations Brooks made towards the medical staff:

"In light of CM Punk's allegations regarding WWE's medical staff and the subsequent defamation lawsuit filed by Dr. Amann against CM Punk, WWE continues to have the utmost confidence in the ability and expertise our world-class team of physicians, including Dr. Amann."
