WWE Latest News: Ex-WWE Writer Explains The Absence Of Steph McMahon's Mugshot After 2014 Arrest; Royal Rumble 2016 Rumors
During the December 28th edition of World Wrestling Entertainment's Monday Night RAW, company chairman Vince McMahon was involved in an arrest angle.
As explained in detail by Marc Middleton of WrestlingInc, the 70-year-old professional wrestling veteran was handcuffed by police, after he was portrayed laying a hand on one of the 'responding officers'. Later, the New York City police released a supposed mug shot of McMahon.
The same "arrest" angle was used with Vince's daughter and WWE's Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon in 2014. In another report by Nick Paglino of WrestleZone, Stephanie was taken into custody by law enforcement officers during 2014's July 21st episode of Monday Night RAW for slapping Brie Bella. However, no mug shot of Stephanie was released.
Former WWE creative writer Kevin Eck then explained why this was the case. In his recent blog post, Eck explained that it was Stephanie's husband, Triple H, who was opposed to the idea.
"His reasoning was that the faux mug shot of his wife would exist forever in cyberspace, and therefore if someone did a Google search on Stephanie and the photo popped up, people might think she had actually been arrested, which could be detrimental to her career as WWE's Chief Brand Officer," Eck wrote.
Eck also pointed out that Triple H made the decision not to release the said mug shot, despite the fact that Vince himself enjoyed the idea.
Meanwhile, several rumors about the upcoming Royal Rumble event on January 24th have been released.
In a report by Gene Mrosko for Cageside Seats, The Big Show and Curtis Axel have been announced to be appearing in the event, which will take place at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
The report adds that Big Show was unable to clarify if he will be entry number one (the first man to enter the ring), or be "entry number one" as the first wrestler to declare himself as part of the match.
At the January 4 episode of Monday Night RAW, after Roman Reigns won against Sheamus, Vince announced that Reigns would be defending his WWE title against the 29 other men participating in the Royal Rumble match.
