$100 Million Penthouse NYC Highest Price in History
Everyone knows that real estate in New York City does not come cheap, but one prime piece of Manhattan could be yours for the asking price of $100 million.
The unusual property is in the shape of an octagon and features six bedrooms, nine bathrooms and a personal terrace with 360-degree views of Manhattan. Its prime location on West 56th street offers views of the Hudson River and Central Park, while keeping it between Times Square and Columbus Circle.
The apartment also has an internal elevator, since it occupies three floors, and a specialty wine room that can accommodate 1,000 bottles. It might not be family-friendly, though, which is why real estate developer and current owner Steven Klar is selling the space.
"My five-year-old son could potentially get out on the terraces," Klar told The New York Times. He purchased the apartment in 1993 for the asking price of $4.5 million and has spent at least that much on renovations, the Associated Press reported.
Although high prices are nothing new to New York City, several other apartments around the world fall into the exclusive category of million-dollar homes. For example, a one-bedroom apartment in Tokyo was recently listed for $22 million and features exclusive art and a hot tub.
Another condominium in NYC currently holds the record for sale price in the city, with a purchase price of $88 million. The record was set in January, after being bought by Russian heiress Ekaterina Rybolovleva. The home occupies the 75th floor of the Time Warner Center.
In contrast, the record held in San Francisco real estate is only $28 million. The penthouse features floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a 13-seat home theater, six bedrooms and seven full baths.
The $100 million octagon apartment is currently listed with Prudential Douglas Elliman.
