2017 Jeep Compass Release Date, Specs, Price News: Compact SUV Updated With Fuel-Efficient Powertrain, Latest Technologies
The 2017 Jeep Compass continues the brand's legacy of being a capable vehicle — for both on- and off-road driving — but now, the compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) is more fuel-efficient and equipped with the latest technologies.
The all-new Compass will be offered with several powertrain options. The North American market will receive the 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. It is fuel efficient with engine stop-start and attains 31 miles per gallon (mpg) when the powertrain is mated with a six-speed manual transmission. Customers can also avail of nine-speed and six-speed automatic transmissions.
Unsurprisingly, the 2017 Jeep Compass is said to deliver best-in-class 4 x 4 off-road capability, available with the Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low systems. The compact SUV is able to handle different terrains and weather conditions with five drive modes: Auto, Snow, Sand, Mud and Rock for the Trailhawk model. These ensure that the Compass provides drivers with optimal performance during both on- and off-road driving.
The 2017 Jeep Compass is built using the brand's "small wide architecture." It has a rigid body structure thanks to the extensive use of high-strength steel. Driving dynamics are also enhanced by the fully independent suspension, frequency damping front-and-rear strut system and electric power steering.
In terms of design, the compact SUV features signature Jeep styling that makes it easily recognizable even from at a distance. Notable design elements include the seven-slot grille with Gloss Black chrome slots, headlamps with a black outline, the traditional clamshell hood and unique LED taillights. The Jeep Compass also has a dramatic and muscular profile.
Available features include a power liftgate, a Gloss Black-painted roof and an open-air dual-pane sunroof.
Meanwhile, the cabin features sculpted surfaces, precise detailing and high-quality materials. The fourth-generation Uconnect system is available with a 5-, 7-, or 8.4-inch touchscreen display and has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
When it comes to advanced safety technologies, the 2017 Jeep Compass is available with Forward Collision Warning-Plus, LaneSense Departure Warning-Plus, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection, ParkView backup camera, electronic stability control and a seven-air bag system.
The 2017 Jeep Compass will be offered in four trims: Sport ($22,090), Latitude ($25,390), Trailhawk ($29,690) and Limited ($30,990). The compact SUV is expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships next week.
