2017 Pagani Huayra Roadster Release Date, Specs, Price News: $2.4 Million Open-Top Supercar Unveiled
Pagani has finally unveiled the highly anticipated Huayra Roadster — an open-top supercar said to be the "most complicated project" that the Italian automobile manufacturer has ever undertaken. Though it has been a long six-year endeavor, Pagani was able create something stunning and powerful that features everything that car enthusiasts are looking for in a roadster.
"From the beginning we set ourselves some pretty ambitious targets. The first, from a technical point of view, was to make a roadster that would be lighter than the coupé, which was already the lightest hypercar on sale at the time," said founder Horacio Pagani.
The 2017 Huayra Roadster has an overall dry weight of 2,822 pounds, which makes it 176 pounds lighter than the Huayra Coupe. This was achieved through the use of a Carbo-titanium and Carbo-Triax HP52 monocoque chassis. It also increases the roadster's torsional flexional rigidity and makes it 52 percent stiffer than the coupe.
Pagani's new supercar also aims to provide one thing that the Huayra Coupe was not able to provide drivers — the experience of open-top driving. The Huayra Roadster comes with two types of removable roof panels. The first is a light carbon hard top with a large glass panel which makes the open-top supercar look like a coupe. Meanwhile, the other roof type is a carbon and fiber cover that can be stored inside the vehicle. The soft roof can be easily installed manually in case of rain or other unpredictable weather conditions.
The 2017 Huayra Roadster is equipped with the same powertrain that is used by the coupe: a 6.0-liter Mercedes-AMG V12 engine that delivers 764 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a new seven-speed AMT gearbox that was specifically built by X-Track for the Huayra BC. It also comes with an electronic mechanical differential.
The new roadster features an active aerodynamic system in which four flaps move independently to increase downforce, a lighter and more refined suspension, Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes, 20- and 21-inch forged aluminum alloy wheels and Pirelli performance tires.
Pagani has not released performance numbers for the Huayra Roadster but more details will be announced during the open-top supercar's world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
The 2017 Huayra Roadster comes with a price tag of $2.4 million but all 100 examples have already been sold.
