2018 Ford Expedition Release Date, Specs News: All-New SUV Can Stream Live Cable and Satellite TV
Ford Motors has announced that the 2018 Ford Expedition will be available with an entertainment system that reinvents how drivers and passengers consume media while on the road. With the all-new full-size sports utility vehicle (SUV), occupants won't have to miss live events or their favorite television shows even if they are traveling.
"This entertainment system creates an entirely new viewing experience in the vehicle. It brings the smart TV experience to Expedition. Together, they completely change the dynamic of a family road trip," said Craig Patterson, brand marketing manager for Ford Expedition.
The 2018 Ford Expedition's dual-headrest rear seat entertainment system will be able to stream live cable or satellite television via SlingPlayer, which connects to their home cable or satellite system. Content will be displayed on the two 8-inch monitors that have been securely integrated on the back of the front-seat headrests.
The video on the entertainment system can be viewed on up to three mobile devices, so passengers in the third row can also enjoy what is being played. Meanwhile, those in the front row can monitor content through the center stack via the Ford SYNC AppLink. They can also disable the controls so children in the back won't be able to access restricted content.
Aside from SlingPlayer, passengers can view content from Android smartphones via Miracast. Compatible Android and iOS devices can also use the SmartStream function. There are also USB and HDMI ports, as well as an SD card slot, so passengers can view downloaded content.
Meanwhile, when it comes to audio, the 2018 Ford Expedition is equipped with a 12-speaker B&O Play premium audio system. The entertainment system also has standard headphone jacks and two wireless headsets. As such, everybody watching the same program will be able to hear sounds clearly.
Lastly, the entertainment system features a wireless network hub so passengers can connect up to 10 mobile devices. They can also enjoy Wi-Fi even outside the vehicle as the connection has a range of up to 50 feet.
The 2018 Ford Expedition will go on sale this fall.
