2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Release Date, Specs News: All-New Crossover Revealed Ahead of Debut Next Week

Mitsubishi has released more details about the 2018 Eclipse Cross ahead of the new compact crossover's debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week.

Based on the promotional images released by the Japanese automaker, the 2018 Eclipse Cross will feature a sharp and dynamic design language with coupe-like elements. In terms of dimensions, it uses the same 2,670 mm wheelbase as the Outlander Sport and Outlander crossovers, but the Eclipse Cross' 4405-mm length positions it in between these two vehicles.

Meanwhile, to differentiate it from the other sports utility vehicles (SUVs), the upcoming crossover has been given unique design cues that include a wedge profile, distinct beltline, strong character line, forward raked rear window, short overhang and beefy fenders. The dynamic design language is also carried over to the rear, which has a broad and stable appearance thanks to LED light fixtures.

Overall, the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross has a powerful and athletic stance.

Inside, the cabin is refined and sporty with a horizontal dashboard layout and a black and silver monotone color scheme. The crossover's interiors also feature a futuristic cockpit design with several advanced technologies.

The new Smartphone Link Display Audio system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and can be operated by the driver using a Touchpad Controller located in the center console. There is also a Head Up Display that presents important vehicle information that can be easily read by the driver.

Also, the four-door crossover provides ample space for its passengers and cargo.

The all-new Eclipse Cross will be offered with two powertrains. The first variant is a 1.5-liter direct-injection turbocharged gasoline engine that is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) while the other option is a 2.2-liter common rail direct-injection turbocharged diesel engine paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Both variants will be available with an electronically controlled four-wheel drive system.

It is expected that the only the first powertrain model will be arriving in the United States.

More information including the crossover's performance numbers will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, scheduled from March 9 to 19. The 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will go on sale later this year.
