2019 Ford Focus Release Date, Specs: Prototype of Next-Gen Compact Hatchback Spotted

The 2019 Ford Focus has been spotted for the first time and despite being heavily camouflaged, the spy shots give a sneak peek of what the fourth-generation compact hatchback will offer consumers when it is launched in the market.

According to Car and Driver, the upcoming Ford Focus appears to have more sculpted surfaces and sweeping lines across its body. It is also noted that the next-generation car bears the newest version of Ford's signature grille, a more sloped profile and new taillights. Meanwhile, the prototype seems to have retained the current Ford Focus' headlights.

In terms of dimensions, the 2019 Ford Focus has been given a longer wheelbase, which, in turn, will provide more legroom for passengers. Nevertheless, the compact hatchback's overall dimensions are expected to be retained.

In a report by AutoCar, it was mentioned that the new Ford Focus will benefit from improved aerodynamics, a stiffer body and weight reduction of about 110 pounds. Furthermore, it will have a simpler, modern and stylish design for both the inside and outside the vehicle.

When it comes to powertrain options, the 2019 Ford Focus could retain the current model's 160-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and 123-horsepower 1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine. However, the automaker may offer a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine as an additional option. A hybrid version of the vehicle is also said to be in discussion.

Ford's newest compact hatchback will reportedly retain its six-speed manual transmission as well as the six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The 2019 Ford Focus is expected to offer the latest active safety features and driver-assistance technologies. A sedan body style is also said to be offered.

The 2019 Ford Focus is expected to be unveiled sometime next year. More details will be announced closer to its official launch date. Once launched, the compact car is expected to go against the popular Volkswagen Golf.
