'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 3 Spoilers: Brett Dalton Talks About 'Agent Ward 2.0'
In the midseason finale of the Marvel action television series, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," viewers saw the death of Agent Grant Ward in the hands of Agent Phil Coulson himself. After Coulson crushes the life out of Ward with his robotic hand, however, his body is taken over by an Inhuman and, as the finale showed, the Inhuman and its new host was able to escape to Earth through a portal between the planet where it lived and Earth. In an interview with IGN, actor Brett Dalton, who plays Grant Ward in the series, shared some interesting tidbits about his character, especially after the season returns in March 2016.
According to the IGN report, the character of Grant Ward will return but not as Ward, the Hydra member, but more Ward 2.0 who is inhabited by a mysterious Inhuman inside. The mysterious Inhuman, according to Dalton, is a creature that "has been occupying this other dimension." He adds, "Monuments have been built in this creature's honor." Hydra's mission in the episode "Maveth" was to bring this creature to Earth through the portal. Little did they know that they succeeded because the creature did in fact make it to Earth, inside of Ward's body.
When asked about what viewers can expect with this new character of Ward, Dalton said that this is no longer the Grant Ward that viewers know. Because of the creature, Ward 2.0 is no longer motivated by revenge and settling scores. Dalton described the creature as something that "has access to all of the thoughts and memories of all of the hosts that he's occupied in the past… he has at least a knowledge of all the stuff that's happened in the past." He also noted that "there's a kind of regalness," as this is a creature who is familiar with "being worshiped and monuments built in his honor. There's an efficiency to his thoughts and movements."
Dalton was also asked about how long this new character of Ward will be expected to stay in the show which he did not answer as this meant giving out a major spoiler for the show.
