'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 5 News: First Look at New Recruits and More Details Revealed

New recruits are joining the action when "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns for season 5.

The hit ABC series will soon return for its next installment, introducing additional members of S.H.I.E.L.D. Entertainment Weekly recently offered a first look at the four new characters on board season 5 as the series heads to space.

The eldest newcomer, Grill (Pruitt Taylor Vince) has an unforgiving temperament. He is described as a man who is not easily crossed by others. Deke (Jeff Ward), on the other hand, is less intimidating. He is dubbed as the ultimate survivor who is willing to help people for a price.

Also joining the team is Tess (Eve Harlow), who is self-sufficient when it comes to difficult situations. Her optimistic character makes her believe that there is still a better future for her and her loved ones.

Flint (Coy Stewart) is the youngest in the group who has learned to adapt in a tough environment. A character based on the "Inhumans" comics, his decisions are influenced by his strong will to succeed. News of Stewart's casting was previously revealed by Charles Soule, who co-created the original character in the comics with Joe Madureira.

In the final moment of season 4, Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) appears to be standing before a reinforced window as asteroids filled the sky outside. Viewers were left wondering how he reached that new location. It turns out his team is on a journey for the Final Frontier.

Speaking with Space.com, executive producer Jeph Loeb talked about the story's move to a new environment. "We're affectionately referring to it as 'LOST IN SPAAAACE!'" he said in October. "We will be in space — where in space is part of the mystery of where they are and how or if they'll ever get home."

Elizabeth Henstridge, who plays scientist Jemma Simmons, also teased that this coming season is quite different that the previous ones because "it feels very grown up, and quite dark, and just cool."

The fifth season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." premieres Friday, Dec. 1, at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
