Alvarez vs. Cotto Rematch: Canelo's Coach 'Willing To Bet Four Houses' That His Fighter Knocks Out Cotto In Rematch
The manager and trainer of world middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is extremely confident that his fighter would be able to knock out former 160-pound champion Miguel Cotto in a rematch.
Alvarez and Cotto faced each other in November, in what was billed as a "super fight," highlighting the long-time boxing rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico. The younger Alvarez was able to emerge victorious by unanimous decision, where he subsequently bagged the lineal WBC and Ring Magazine world titles.
Currently, the 25-year-old Mexican boxing sensation is being slated for another middleweight super fight against undefeated Kazakh knockout artist Gennady Golovkin. However, no date has been set for the said match, as both men have respective assignments to take care of.
Alvarez is slated to make a return in May 7th in a fight against Amir Khan at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Golovkin will be fighting on April 23 against Dominic Wade at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
The Alvarez camp has not closed its doors on a possible rematch against Cotto and if that second fight does happen, trainer and manager Eddy Reynoso believes the outcome would be more convincing this time around.
"Undoubtedly this time he knocks (Cotto out), if that fight comes together," Reynoso told ESPN Deportes (via Boxingscene). "I do not get to bet two houses as Freddie Roach told us he would. I will bet four (houses) that Saul knocks Cotto out, but let's see what happens."
"I do not know if he is (our next opponent), but we are here to fight anyone," he added.
According to another report by Miguel Rivera for Boxingscene, Cotto is being slated for a WBA title shot at light middleweight, but no specific plans have been made.
Alvarez currently holds a win-loss slate of 46-1-1, with 32 victories by knockout. Since experiencing his first ever professional career loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013, "Canelo" won all of his next four fights where two of those victories ended by knockout.
