'American Gods' Plot and Cast News: Starz Launches New Trailer; Series to Premiere in April
Starz recently released a brand-new trailer for their highly-awaited series based on author Neil Gaiman's award-winning novel, "American Gods."
The latest trailer released provides the most extensive look at the upcoming fantasy series and is filled with fantasy imagery and gothic drama. It also provides a closer look into the epic journey of Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) and Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) as they get entangled in the brewing war between mythical gods.
"American Gods" tells the story of the conflict between the Old Gods and the New Gods. The traditional Old Gods, powerful beings which many mythological stories from across the globe are based on, have grown irrelevant as their believers have either died or have been seduced by material things offered by the New Gods.
Shadow Moon is an ex-con who, after the recent death of his wife, becomes the bodyguard and traveling partner to a con man named Mr. Wednesday. In reality, however, Mr. Wednesday is actually a powerful old deity who is on a cross-country mission to raise an army that will help him reclaim his former glory as a god.
Aside from Whittle and McShane, "American Gods" stars Emily Browning as Laura Moon and Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney. The upcoming series also includes other cast members such as Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Crispin Glover as Mr. World and Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy.
Other actors that will appear in "American Gods" include Gillian Anderson as Media, Kristin Chenoweth as Easter, Jonathan Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith, Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya, Peter Stormare as Czernobog, Chris Obi as Anubis, Demore Barnes as Mr. Ibis, Corbin Bernsen as Vulcan, and Mousa Kraish as the Jinn.
Gaiman's novel "American Gods" was released in 2001 and has been translated into over 30 languages. It earned several awards such as the Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel.
"American Gods" premieres on Sunday, April 30 at 9 p.m. EDT on Starz.
