Amy Adams 'Sharp Objects' HBO Air Date, Plot News: Actress Shares Intense Role as Star and Producer

"Man of Steel" star and five-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams is in the middle of filming "Sharp Objects," her new drama-thriller series on HBO. Adams is not only starring on the show as she's also one of the executive producers.

The actress talked about her experiences of having two responsibilities on "Sharp Objects," especially since it's her first time to be a producer. She admitted in an interview with New York Times that it became a huge challenge to be the boss on the set.

"It's just an intense experience," Adams said. "When you're working every day of production, all day every day, in a dark character, and then trying to manage the other stuff — for me it was challenging."

Adams detailed she snapped back at one of the productions staff who kept pointing to her prop while filming once scene. It was as if the staff didn't trust her as an actress and producer.

"I feel partially responsible for the tone that's on set," she said. "I'm sorry for how he felt, but I knew why I was doing that."

Adams is playing a dark character on "Sharp Objects" as Camille Preaker. She investigates and writes about the brutal murders in her hometown and she's fresh out of a psychiatric hospital where she recovered from her own demons. The show's tone made the mood on the set emotionally highly-charged.

"Sharp Objects" is based on author Gillian Flynn's 2006 novel. She also wrote "Gone Girl," which was adapted for the big screen in 2014 with Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, and Neil Patrick Harris.

HBO confirmed "Sharp Objects" as a limited series offering in 2016 with Marti Noxon ("UnREAL") as showrunner and Jean-Marc Vallée ("Big Little Lies") as director. There will have eight episodes, which HBO plans to air sometime in 2018. The series also stars Patricia Clarkson, Elizabeth Perkins, Chriss Messina, Matt Craven, Eliza Scanlen and Will Chase.
