The Android 5.0 "L" version update will roll out for the HTC One M7 and One M8 in the next 90 days.

HTC made the announcement for the software roll out earlier this week.

"HTC Customers and Enthusiasts, HTC is excited about the new features in Android L release and we can't wait to share them with you. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible as part of our HTC Advantage program," the company stated.

"We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 worldwide within 9  days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices. HTC Advantage protects your smartphone investment, ensuring you have the best smartphone experience long after purchase," they addded.

Motorola also plans to roll out the software soon for the Moto X.

The Android 5.0 update will debut on the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 in a new test version.

Google's Sundar Pichai recently sat down with BusinessWeek to discuss the future of the Android platform where he revealed the company's plan to unveil the software soon. He also stated that it will not be available for smartphones and tablets until the fall.

Pichai describes Google's change in strategy for the software roll out as a shift towards greater transparency.

"I want the world to understand what we are doing sooner," he said.

Google took a page out of Apple's strategy book by unveiling the software and waiting to release it. The company is doing this to build awareness for the software, instead of just rushing the unveiling and roll out in the fall the way it normally does.
