Android 6.0 Marshmallow To Hit HTC One M8 Google Play Edition This October, One M9 Developer Edition Before End 2015

HTC is one of the first smartphone manufacturers to announce when the latest Android update will be arriving for their devices after Google officially released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow recently. According to a report in Gotta Be Mobile, two HTC devices will be the first to receive the update ahead of the rest of the latest flagship devices of HTC.

The first device is the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition which is reported to be updated before the end of October. The reason behind this is the fact that a Google Play Edition is the "closest thing to a Nexus device." The second device is the newer HTC One M9 Developer Edition, which will likely get the update in November or early December.

According to the report, HTC had earlier said that it will take them roughly 90 days for them to deliver the update on their latest smartphones. HTC also shared an image which listed the devices that they are planning to update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. As expected, the HTC One M9 and the HTC One M8 are top of the list, with a note that the update will start rolling out by the end of 2015.

The other devices in the list are the HTC One M9+, the E9, the E9+, ME, E8, M8 Eye, Butterfly 3 and HTC Desire 826, 820 and 816, which were released within the past 12 to 18 months. The report noted that older models were not included in the list.

While manufacturers such as HTC may be able to test and deliver the update quickly enough, the roll out to all their phones is very dependent on mobile carriers. According to the report, carriers in the United States usually have a 4 to 6 week delay when it comes to major software updates.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow features the following changes: Doze Mode for better battery saving, Android Pay for easier and more secure mobile purchases, Now on Tap which brings useful and relevant information through Google Now and Direct Share which allows users to share content easily.
