Android 7.0 Nougat News: Major Network Carriers Roll Out a Nougat Update to Samsung, HTC, LG and More

After its exclusive release to Google Pixel and Nexus phones last year, the Android 7.0 Nougat update is finally rolling out to many other eligible smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, LG G5 and HTC among others.

Users who recently purchased Samsung's Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge devices can already enjoy a pre-installed Nougat operating system. But for the others who already owned the device prior to the Nougat's release, major network carriers are now offering the Android 7.0 Nougat update without any charges.

T-Mobile and AT&T subscribers may have already received the Nougat update for the Samsung Galaxy S7 line a few days ago. Meanwhile, Sprint has released the Nougat update for HTC 10 devices and is now rolling it out for its S7 and S7 Edge units. LG G5 subscribers from AT&T can now also download the Android 7.0 Nougat update.

Android's Nougat update is worth around 1.5 to 1.6GB in size (it could vary depending on the smartphone model). And even though a new 7.1 update is already out, this is not an option yet for most Android phone users as Pixel and Nexus users are usually the priority for the first few weeks.

Despite that, the Nougat 7.0 update already covers the recent Feb. 1 security patch.

The prominent features of the new Android Nougat include an improved and revamped quick setting adjustment, a split-screen capability for apps, new emojis and several other security updates.

In addition, Express UK reports that users of OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, manufactured by OnePlus, a Chinese-owned technology firm, can also enjoy the new Android Nougat update.

Users, however, have to update the built-in OxygenOS of their OnePlus smartphones first before they can proceed to update their Android OS to Nougat.

Aside from that, the Huawei Mate 9 and LG V20 are also confirmed to be eligible for a Nougat upgrade. However, Sony halted the Nougat roll out for its Xperia Z5 because of a number of problems that were reported by some of its users, including audio playback glitches and encrypted data read performances, right after upgrading to Nougat.
