Angelina Jolie Offered to Help Arrest Uganda's Most Notorious Warlord

From being a movie star, Angelina Jolie almost became a real-life spy.

Based on leaked ICC documents (via The Sunday Times), the actress offered to help lure Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony in 2012. Luis Moreno Ocampo was the ICC chief prosecutor at the time, and he said in one email that Jolie was behind "the idea to invite Kony to dinner and then arrest him." Once Kony arrives, U.S. Special Forces could finally take him into custody.

At some point in their conversation, Moreno Ocampo even asked Jolie if her now-estranged husband Brad Pitt could be involved. "Apparently you can be embedded with the special forces that are chasing Kony. Can Brad go with you?" the former ICC chief prosecutor wrote.

"Brad is being supportive," Jolie allegedly answered back. "Let's discuss logistics. Much love Xxx."

Unfortunately, the plan was never put into action. Dayton Daily News notes that the U.S. military decided to end its nearly five-year mission to arrest Kony because his army has been diminished to roughly 100 soldiers. Although Kony still has many followers, the notorious warlord reportedly "no longer poses any significant threat."

Aside from working in the entertainment industry, the "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" star is also a United Nations Special Envoy. She had criticized Kony in the past, revealing in one interview that she would be tempted to "take down" the warlord if she had the chance to be alone with him.

Kony is known as the leader of the Lord's Resistance Army — a guerilla group in Uganda. He has been accused of kidnapping children and forcing them to become soldiers or sex slaves. In 2005, he was indicted for crimes against humanity and war crimes by the IC, but he was never captured by the authorities.

Jolie and Pitt separated in September 2016. They have six children together: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox.
