Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Outsells Battlefield 4 in Opening Week Numbers

Battlefield 4 lost out on opening sales to Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and both sold less opening copies then their predecessors in the U.K.

Despite the lower numbers this time around, both games managed to capture the top two spots in game sales.

With all these games selling well currently, the list should get interesting once the PS4 and Xbox One launch later this month.

PS4's launch day exclusives include: Killzone: Shadow Fall, DC Universe Online, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Warframe, War Thunder, Contrast, Blacklight:Retribution, Escape-Plan, Flow, Flower, Pinball Arcade, Putty Squad, Resogun, SoundShapes, Switch Galaxy Ultra, DC Universe Online, Skylanders SWAP Force, Super Motherload, Tiny Brains, and Warframe.

Xbox One's launch day exclusives include: Dead Rising 3, The Fighter Within, Crimson Dragon, Forza Motorsport 5, Killer Instinct, LocoCycle, Powerstar Golf, Ryse: Son of Rome, Zoo Tycoon, and Zumba Fitness World Party.

According to Den of Geek, both consoles will have: Assassin's Creed IV, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Fifa 14, Just Dance 2014, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Madden NFL 25, NBA 2k14, NBA Live 14, and Need for Speed: Rivals.

Reports indicate that the Xbox One is gaining ground on the PS4 for pre-order sales in the U.S. as Microsoft's console sold more over the last month.

Sony has sold over 125,000 pre-orders since Aug. 24, giving it a total of 725,000 in total for the U.S., reported Forbes. In that time frame, Microsoft has sold 175,000 pre-orders, but still lags behind with 525,000.

"Week one sales for both consoles in the US are expected to be pretty similar," VGChartz reports in a blog post. "At the current pace the PlayStation 4 should sell just over one million units, while the Xbox One should sell just under one million units."

They also report that Call of Duty: Ghosts is the top pre-ordered game for both consoles with 298,000 for the PS4 and 330,000 on the Xbox One.

Battlefield 4 is the second most pre-ordered game 153,000 for the Xbox One and 274,000 on the PS4.
