Aston Martin AM-RB 001 Release Date, Specs News: Hypercar With V12 Cosworth Engine Slated for Debut in Toronto

The culmination of Aston Martin's collaboration with Red Bull Racing will be through a street-legal hypercar codenamed AM-RB 001, which is slated to make its debut at the Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS) in Toronto this weekend.

"The synergy between Red Bull Racing and Aston Martin is clear. I knew Red Bull Racing had the ability to handle the pure performance aspects, but Aston Martin's experience of making beautiful, fast and comfortable GT cars is of great benefit to the project," said Adrian Newey, chief technical officer of Red Bull Racing.

Dr. Andy Palmer, president and CEO of Aston Martin, also teased that the AM-RB 001 will be a history-making hypercar that will be known for its design, efficiency and performance.

The overall goal of the collaboration is to create a hypercar that is usable on the road but delivers performance only previously seen in race cars. There is also a desire to provide drivers with intense levels of driving pleasure.

The Aston Martin AM-RB 001 utilizes a lightweight carbon-fiber structure equipped with underfloor aerodynamics that will deliver unprecedented levels of downforce. The design is also dramatic, elegant and cutting-edge with all aspects of the car to be bespoke — something that will make it distinctly an Aston Martin creation.

Aston Martin has not revealed full specifications but according to AutoCar, the AM-RB 001 will feature a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine from Cosworth and a seven-speed gearbox manufactured by Ricardo. It is expected to deliver around 900 horsepower.

Given immense power under the hood, the hypercar will be equipped with innovative suspension technology to make sure drivers are still comfortable despite driving at high speeds.

Only 150 examples of the AM-RB 001 will be produced and that number already includes the prototypes and 25 track-only models. First deliveries aren't expected until 2018 so be sure to check out the Toronto Auto Show, scheduled from Feb. 17 to 26, to catch a glimpse of the highly anticipated hypercar.
