'Atomic Blonde' Trailer Featuring Charlize Theron as Lethal Spy Unveiled
Universal Pictures has just released a new trailer for the upcoming action film "Atomic Blonde."
The trailer features Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron in the starring role. She is seen killing men in typical and unconventional ways using guns, ropes and even her shoes. The promotional video introduces fresh footage and a soundtrack that includes a fierce new remix of "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics.
Aside from awesome action sequences, the latest trailer also shows Theron as an MI6 spy speaking darkly and cryptically during a debriefing session with her superiors.
The upcoming film is directed by David Leitch — the same director that helmed "John Wick" and will be overseeing the highly-awaited "Deadpool" sequel — from an adapted screenplay by Kurt Johnstad. "Atomic Blonde" is based on the graphic novel by writer Antony Johnston and illustrator Sam Hart titled "The Coldest City."
The movie takes place during the final days of the Cold War in the 1980s. Lorraine Broughton (Theron), an experienced and very lethal MI6 spy and assassin, is sent to Berlin in order to deliver a "priceless" dossier.
Though she ventures alone into the destabilized city, she is assisted on her mission by MI6's experienced Berlin station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the most lethal war of spies.
The movie already premiered at the 2017 South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival with the title "The Coldest City" from its comic book source material. The critics who got to watch the action film at the festival gave it mostly positive reviews, particularly praising Theron's impressive performance as well as the movie's fight sequences. However, the film was also criticized for its shortcomings in terms of its story and emotional substance.
"Atomic Blonde" also stars John Goodman ("Kong: Skull Island"), Til Schweiger ("Inglorious Basterds"), Eddie Marsan ("Ray Donovan"), Sofia Boutella ("Kingsman: The Secret Service") and Toby Jones ("Captain America: The First Avenger").
"Atomic Blonde" is scheduled to hit the big screen on July 28.
