According to the game developer, these particular characters were chosen for "their integral-yet-distinct point-of-view" as compared to that of the original manga series.

One of the game's programmers, Hisashi Koinuma, also described the game as something that will help players under the original story of the manga as they play it. He said, "Think of it as an action game set in the 'Attack on Titan' world where players can move about freely."

Aside from the characters, there will also be other familiar faces from the story who will appear in the game and these include Reiner, Ymir, Bertolt, Marco, Keith, Rico, Ian, Pyxis, and the unnamed female titan.

The game is also said to be bringing with it new story material written by the manga creator Hajime Isayama. According to a VG 24/7 report, the game will provide new material that will help explain some of the characters' back stories.

Another Tech Times report also revealed that the game will have a special mode wherein players can go beyond the confines of the city walls which is called "Investigation Outside the Walls" mode. Players can go on various missions and this mode will be useful for "character development, finding weapon materials and gathering funds."
