The work on the visual effects for the "Avatar" sequels has already begun. Meanwhile, CCH Pounder will reprise her role as Moat in "Avatar 2."

Director James Cameron and visual effects studio Weta Digital have already begun working on "Avatar 2" as well as the other three sequels to come after, Variety confirmed.

"What Joe Letteri and Weta Digital bring to these stories is impossible to quantify," Cameron said of the senior visual effects supervisor of the New Zealand-based company.

The "Avatar" director added that Weta continues to deliver "the most human, the most alive, the most photo-realistic effects in the world," which only excites him to push their boundaries further in the upcoming sequels.

At the same time, Letteri is honored to work with Cameron again.

"Jim's vision for the world of Pandora was always so much bigger than what we created for the first film. Helping him expand the language of cinema through new narratives set in such an expansive universe is the type of opportunity that rarely comes along twice," he explained.

The Weta Digital supervisor also added that graphically complex films such as "Avatar" push their team "to do their best work."

With this, fans are expecting sequels that will be better than the first film.

Meanwhile, the spiritual leader of the Navi people – Moat – will return in "Avatar 2," to be reprised by Pounder.

Plot details for "Avatar 2" have yet to be released, which leaves followers of the film trying to figure out how Moat and the rest of the characters will play into the storyline.

In "Avatar," Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) led the Navi people in protecting their home and became one with Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). How their stories will continue in the sequel remains unknown.

"Avatar 2" is slated to premiere on Dec. 18, 2020.
