'Avengers: Infinity War' News: Russos Clarify '67 Characters' Comment, Reveal Shooting Schedule For 'Infinity War'

Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors behind the Marvel films "Captain America: The Winter Solider" (2014) and the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" (2016), are backpedalling on a previous comment they made where they said that another Marvel film they're currently working on, "Avengers: Infinity War," will feature 67 characters.

In an interview with Collider, the Russos said, "We were being figurative when we said [67 characters] and people took it as literal but there's a lot of characters."

"'Infinity War' is meant to be the culmination of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe up to that point," the directors said. "It's very ambitious in its scope, it wants to take everything that you've seen before and coalesce into some kinda of climactic ending."

Explaining their earlier comment, the Russos said, "We're not talking about lead characters, just people that make an appearance."

In the interview, Anthony and Joe also revealed that filming for the two-part conclusion to the various Marvel Cinematic Universe storylines is scheduled to begin in November and will, as with filming for other MCU films, be based in Atlanta.

Filming for some exterior scenes, as well as the stage work for "Infinity War," will be done in the city. The movie will also be shooting some of its scenes in various locations around the world. The Russos disclosed that they will begin working on pre-production for the film in late July and will not be back in Los Angeles until June 2017.

The directors also revealed that they will be filming "Avengers: Infinity War - Part I" and "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2" concurrently, which means that they may be shooting "Part I" one day and then shooting "Part 2" the next. "Just jumping back and forth," they said.

"Avengers: Infinity War - Part I" is scheduled for release on May 4, 2018. "Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2" hits theaters on May 3, 2019. Avengers fans can catch them on the big screen next in "Captain America: Civil War," which lands in cinemas on May 6.
