Batman Prequel 'Gotham' Coming to TV
A Batman prequel, "Gotham," has been ordered by Fox as their latest television series, according to the latest reports. The show will feature a younger James Gordon, who will go on to become police commissioner of the crime-ridden city and the ally of caped crusader Batman.
The Batman prequel "Gotham" stars Ben McKenzie, who has appeared previously in "The O.C." and "Southland," among other television and film roles. He also has some experience with the Batman universe from voice acting in "Batman: Year One," a DC animated movie.
"Citizens of Gotham, We will not, we cannot, let these killers and these robbers and these rapists and these thugs win," one official says in the trailer.
The two-minute trailer shows a city besieged with crime, along with the most notorious crime of all – the killing of a young Bruce Wayne's parents. Gordon will act as a mentor to the young billionaire while functioning as a detective with Gotham police.
The series will also feature the beginnings of other well-known criminals and supervillians like the Penguin, the Riddler, Catwoman and Poison Ivy.
Bruno Heller, who worked on "The Mentalist" is the executive producer and also wrote the series' pilot episode, according to Variety.
Along with McKenzie is Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, the Wayne family's longtime butler; Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot or the Penguin; Jada Pinkett Smith and Erin Smith are also involved. While Camren Bicondova will play Selina Kyle, the eventual Catwoman.
Young Bruce Wayne will be played by David Mazouz.
