'Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice' Cast News, Spoilers: Lauren Cohan Will Play Batman's Mom; Director Explains Doomsday's Role
Warner Bros. may already be hinting at the involvement of a bigger, badder villain (Darkseid) in the forthcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," but fans are still a bit hung up on why Zack Snyder revealed (in the film's last full-length trailer) Doomsday so soon. And with the epic superhero battle between Superman (Henry Cavill) and Batman (Ben Affleck), and the introduction of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and The Flash (Ezra Miller), many are wondering why Doomsday couldn't have been left for the "Man of Steel" sequel instead of sharing the big screen with so many other iconic DC characters.
In an interview for the latest issue of Empire Magazine, "Dawn of Justice" director Zack Snyder talked about why he decided to include Doomsday in the film, saying, as quoted by Comic Book Movie, "To go up against heroes like Batman and Superman, we wanted to introduce one of the DC Universe's most iconic and powerful villains."
"He is essentially an unstoppable force," he said. "He poses a real threat to the world within the film."
Adding bulk to the plot, Snyder also revealed a major clue about Lex Luthor's (Jesse Eisenberg) motivations in the film. According to the director, "You learn pretty early on that Lex is interested in metahuman existence and that there might be some relationship between that investigation and the appearance of Diana Prince."
Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly reports that "The Walking Dead" star Lauren Cohan has been tapped to play the role of Martha Wayne in "Batman v Superman." There has been no official confirmation of the role, as of fellow "The Walking Dead" star Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who IMDb lists as playing the role of Thomas Wayne, Martha's husband and Bruce's/Batman's father, in the film. As the Batman fans will see in "Batman v Superman" is said to be an older, "kind of burnt out" version of the Caped Crusader, it is expected that Cohan and Morgan will play the Waynes in a flashback sequence in the film.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" lands in cinemas this March.
