'Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice' Spoilers: 'Mythology' Of Doomsday Will Provide The Story For 'Justice League' Film

There are still a couple of months left before DC Entertainment's big superhero film of 2016, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," is released. Yet Zack Snyder, the film's director, is already teasing the next movie in the DC Extended Universe film series, "Justice League," which is set to be released in 2017.

Last week, Snyder fuelled fan speculation when he said, "In a weird way, 'Justice League' is the next step for these characters to form a bigger team," adding, "Maybe there's a bigger enemy to fight."

The usually secretive Snyder has now revealed what he meant by "bigger enemy," telling The Daily Beast: "Well, you have Doomsday, right? He doesn't just crawl out of the ground. He has his own mythology, right? So that has to be explored…"

Doomsday is the main villain in "Batman v Superman" and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is portrayed in the DC comic books as a supervillain who was born from a creature who existed on Krypton before even Superman's own people lived. The creature was taken from the depths of the planet by evil scientists and modified and cloned until he turned into a killing machine. Doomsday eventually escaped from his captors and made his way to Earth.

Snyder received a lot of flak in December after an extended teaser trailer for "Batman v Superman" was released, revealing not only Batman/Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill), but also Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), General Zod (Michael Shannon), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), and Doomsday. Fans criticized the trailer as having revealed too much, with many DC fans wondering if there was anything left in the film to surprise them come premiere day.

But Snyder dismissed those comments, reassuring fans that there's a lot more to see in the film. The director also wanted fans to begin looking past "Batman v Superman" and see the DC superheroes as part of a bigger picture.

"To us it really made sense to give [Doomsday] to the audience now," Snyder said, according to the same The Daily Beast article. "I really wanted to make the audience a promise that… though I'm super excited and happy and fulfilled by the conflict of 'Batman and Superman', there's also a bigger world to start to think about."

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" lands in movie theaters on March 25.
