'Bill Nye Saves the World': The Science Guy's New Show Premieres April 21
With April's arrival comes a slew of new releases of TV shows and original movies on online streaming service company Netflix. Among those that will be launched this month is the science-focused talk show "Bill Nye Saves the World."
According to Live Science, Bill Nye aka "The Science Guy" will be coming to Netflix with a new show that is intended to challenge misconceptions about science as well as to inspire curiosity and wonder to its viewers in every 30-minute episode of the series.
A trailer for the upcoming science show has been released by Netflix and is currently available online. Based on the clip, Nye is joined by a succession of special guests and assisted by his correspondents.
He also showcases his extensive know-how on subject matters such as hot science and tech topics, and refutes anti-scientific claims. In his "laboratory," he is seen testing out an array of experiments with celebrity guests, and displaying his characteristic enthusiasm while doing so.
Nye quit his day job 30 years ago to campaign for a more scientifically literate society. With that in mind, he appeared as the "Science Guy" on a TV show on PBS and taught kids about science through wacky experiments while donning his iconic bow tie and lab coat. Now, Nye will be making a comeback, albeit on the internet, with a new series on Netflix.
In a recent interview with Fortune, Nye spoke about the dangers of fake science and science denial.
"Science denial is a big concern right now. Carl Sagan wrote about this 40 years ago — that if you had a society that is increasingly dependent on technology and you have fewer and fewer people who know how it all works, that's a formula for a disaster," Nye said. "If you have people who don't accept the process by which we create all this wonderful stuff, you're going to have trouble."
"Bill Nye Saves the World" is scheduled for release on Friday, April 21, on Netflix.
