BlackBerry Priv Now Available In India, Comes With Android Operating System
Canada-based tech company BlackBerry has always been known for their qwerty-keyboard devices. But with smartphones being a constant trend in the market, they have decided to step up their game by coming up with the company's first Android-powered device called Priv.
According to The Economic Times, BlackBerry launched the device in India with a price tag of Rs. 62,990. It is now available in the country since Jan. 30. The device was originally launched in the western markets in November last year.
As for the specs of the device, the Times of India detailed that it remains the same with the original one. It will still come with a QHD display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution. It will be coated with a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top for protection.
The device will be equipped with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor clocked at 1.8GHz and will be partnered with 3 GB of RAM. It has an internal memory storage of 32 GB and can be expanded further up to 200 GB via a microSD card slot.
And as mentioned, its operating system this time is an Android 5.1 Lollipop which may be updated to the latest one, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. According to Damian Tay, senior director, APAC product management at BlackBerry, the company has "kept near stock Android" to offer regular software updates from Google. Tay also mentioned that once the device is updated with Android Marshmallow, it will bring in more security features.
The Indian Express detailed that the company has incorporated the BlackBerry DTEK which functions to scan every single app and the permissions it is taking from the user. This security technology will also prevent users from installing third-party launchers or apps from unverified sources.
Moreover, the BlackBerry Priv also comes with an 18-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 2-megapixel front camera. It offers 4G, LTE, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC. Giving it power is a 3,410mAh battery.
