Boxing News 2015: Roy Jones Jr. Wants To Keep Fighting Despite KO Loss; Promoter Assures Golovkin Fighting By Next Spring

Four-division world champion and boxing veteran Roy Jones Jr. is planning to carry on with his fighting career, despite being brutally knocked out over the weekend in Moscow, Russia.

Meanwhile, the promoter of undefeated middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin promised that "GGG" would be back in the ring by the spring of 2016.

Former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli knocked out the 46-year-old Jones in the fourth round of their fight held at the VTB Ice Palace on Saturday. But despite the disappointing results, Jones, who is gracious in accepting his most recent defeat, says he is not done with fighting just yet.

In a report by Boxingscene, he says he plans to continue fighting, especially since he was just granted his Russian citizenship in November.

"In boxing there is always someone who wins and someone who loses," Jones said, according to the report. "I am a citizen of Russia and I will make every effort to ensure that Russian boxing is firmly entrenched in the global arena."

The loss marks "Captain Hook's" ninth overall throughout his 26-year boxing career. He currently holds a record of 62-9, with 45 victories by knockout. Prior to his most recent loss, Jones won the last of his eight fights.

He last saw action in August, with a sixth round knockout win against American Eric Watkins.

Meanwhile, Gennady Golovkin is expected to fight by the spring of 2016, according to his promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions. In another Boxingscene report, Loeffler did say that it would still depend on their next opponent.

"Gennady's next bout will be in the spring and it will depend on the opponent," said Loeffler. "Naturally, the winner of the Andy Lee-BJ Saunders fight is an attractive fight, it's for the WBO title. Danny Jacobs just had a very big win, he becomes an interesting opponent."

Golovkin last saw action in October, where he scored an eighth round TKO win against Canada's David Lemieux.
