In Moneyball, Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the real- life general manager of the Oakland A’s. Beane put together a playoff team with the help of computer-generated analysis.

According to a witness, Pitt tried to contain himself while he said, “Look, man, life is up and down, it’s a vicious cycle, but you have to go through it and deal with that.”

The actor continued, “You can be down, but then you come back up again, and every failure can lead to success.”

Reportedly, he stopped to offer encouraging words to the man on his way out of the event.

According to a 2011 study which compared age-specific suicide rates to U.S. business cycles, the rate of suicide in the United States rises and falls in relation to the progression of the economy. The study entitled, "Impact of Business Cycles on the U.S. Suicide Rates, 1928-2007” was conducted by the U.S Center for Disease Control and Prevention and published online in the American Journal of Public Health.

Many recent reports indicate that the economy is at a record two-and-a-half-year growth with employment on the rise. Only time will tell if the American spirit will be lifted as well.
