Brett West Tries to Get His Son A Date: Olympic Luger Tucker West is 'Very Single,' Says Awkward Dad
Brett West tried to get his son a date while talking about him on the "Today" show. Tucker West is the 18-year-old U.S. Olympic luge star competing in Sochi, Russia, but he's still "a little shy," the proud dad admitted.
"I just want to say to all the young ladies out there, Tucker is very single," Brett West said while live on the air. "And he's a little shy, so you'll have to reach out to him," he adding, mentioning his son's "Team Tucker" Facebook fan page.
The awkward moment continued with the father saying that his son would definitely reply to any takers.
"And the neat part is he's such a good kid, anyone who posts there he always gives back a personal response," Brett explained.
The effect he had on his son's love life was immediate. Tucker had fans from all over ready to date him, and his fan page doubled almost overnight from around 2,000 fans to over 4,000. Many of them were from Ridgefield, Oregon, his hometown.
"That was so adorable the way your dad spoke about you #teamtucker #shygirloverhere," Kelly Sugrue posted on Twitter.
"My dad wants to set me up with tucker from the us Olympic team #teamtucker," another tweeted.
Even Tucker's Facebook page became so inundated with date requests that Tatum West, one of the Olympian's relatives, had to remind his fans what the page was originally for.
"I would like to remind everyone that this (is) as fan page for Tucker's Olympic journey and not a dating fan page," she posted on Facebook. "Let's not forget what we are here and cheering for. Thanks, GO TUCKER AND USA!"
After all his meddling, Brett West said his son was a little embarrassed.
"I am in so much trouble with Tucker," he admitted, adding that the teen had forgiven him.
However, the awkward request may still work out in Tucker's favor— although the luger finished 22nd in his event, father and son will both appear on the "Today" show Tuesday after all the attention.
