Buffalo Surgeon Body Found After Nationwide Manhunt

The search for a surgeon and former special-forces soldier may be over after a massive manhunt. Dr. Timothy Jorden was wanted for killing his ex-girlfriend in a Buffalo, N.Y. hospital on Wednesday.

Jorden reportedly walked into the Erie County Medical Center and shot his former girlfriend, Jacqueline Wisniewski, in a stairwell. The incident shocked friends and co-workers where the two worked; police and the New York SWAT team responded to the call and Jorden was considered armed and dangerous.

As a special-forces soldier, Jorden was familiar with weapons training, making him all the more dangerous. The FBI joined with local and state authorities in order to track Jorden but were unable to locate him. Now a body has been found near his home, though sources have not been able to confirm that it is indeed Jorden's body.

According to ABC affiliate, Eyewitness News, the body of a man matching Jorden's description was found in the brush near his home. It is believed that the man died of a single, self-inflicted, gunshot.

"It's terrible," Tom Wrzosek, a neighbor, told the Associated Press. "It's a tragic situation. Nobody wins in a situation like this."

Family and friends have suggested that Jorden was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after retiring from the military. He had served as a weapons specialist and medic in the Caribbean, Japan, and Korea. Recently, though, Jorden had dropped nearly 75 pounds and was "acting strangely."

His ex-wife, Francisca Wellsbury, told ABC News that she had wanted Jorden to "seek help" for whatever he was going through.

"This is not the person I knew," she added. Even though the couple has been divorced for many years, Wellsbury noted that the situation is "traumatic. I'm just as shocked as anyone."
