Carly Rae Jepson First Pitch Video Goes Viral; Singer Misses Mound, Hits Camera
The video of "Call Me Maybe" singer Carly Rae Jepson throwing a rather unathletic first pitch at the Tampa Bay Ray versus Houston Astros game has gone viral and is extremely popular. The video of the botched pitch has racked up over 3 million YouTube views in just three days.
Jepson donned a number 8 Rays Jersey as she stepped up to the pitcher's mound in the Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Sunday. She then attempted to throw a pitch, but something went wrong with the execution. The ball was in the air for a very short time, and it then rolled past the first base line and hit a photographer's camera.
It seems fans really enjoy seeing the popular singer in a moment of athletic embarrassment. Many YouTube commenters have expressed their delight.
"What do you think the catcher was thinking? 'ball me maybe?' wrote cowinpants79.
Though many YouTube comments wrote mean spirited things, saying she threw "like a girl," there were plenty of fans willing to defend her with comments of their own.
"She's still probably a better singer than you, you hater," wrote ultracfac23 in defense of Jepson.
The singer herself took a humorous and relaxed tone to her failed pitch. She posted photos of the pitch on her Instagram account and wrote, "A before and after. Me taking the mound. Me knocking the camera out of the photographers hands with the baseball. And me getting a sympathy hug from the catcher. Omg."
