Casey Hauff Faces 11 Charges in 'Sex for Grades' Case
Casey Hauff, a teacher and football coach at a school in Oklahoma is facing 11 charges related to a "sex for grades" scandal. Authorities have charged him with two counts of rape and nine other felonies relating to sexual acts with students.
Prosecutors have alleged that Hauff engaged in a trade-off with his students: if they engaged in sexual acts with him, he promised better grades. "Many of these sexual acts occurred at the school during school hours," the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.
The scandal came to light after one victim told a classmate, who then told school officials. Other victims have emerged in the wake of Hauff's arrest. He turned himself in to officials on Friday and was released after paying a $250,000 bond.
A relative of one of the victims told Fox News about the abuse. "He was tutoring her to bring her grades up. If she did this, she would get an A, and if she did this and so on. And she had sent him pictures of her in her bra and panties. I told her, 'By coming forward, you're saving everybody.'"
Police Chief Gene Dobson verified the facts as told to Fox News. "Hauff also requested several of the victims send nude photographs of themselves to his cellphone," Dobson said in a statement.
The case is hitting the small Atoka community hard. The town boasts a population of 3,000 and is reeling from the events. "It's a small town," Dodson told Reuters. "It's an emotionally-charged situation."
While five victims have been identified, the Oklahoma State Bureau fears there may be many more who are too afraid or ashamed to come forward. One court affidavit filed by District Attorney Emily Redman stated that Hauff told a victim: "He had a few other girls he messed with at school."
"He usually waited until the girls graduated, but he would make an exception for her and a few others," the affidavit reads.
Huaff remains free on bond and will next face a preliminary hearing on April 18.
