'Chicago Med' Season 3 Spoilers, News: 'A Clockwork Orange' Star Lands Role, Will Dr. Charles Survive?

Dr. Charles' (Oliver Platt) fate has been revealed on the new synopsis for "Chicago Med" season 3.

Season 2 left off with Dr. Charles being shot by an angered patient. Infuriated after being ignored in the hospital, the deranged patient lashed out at Dr. Charles and shot the resident psychologist at point-blank range before killing himself.

The show wrapped up without revealing whether the doctor survived or not. Due to the shocking cliffhanger, fans had to wait a few months to know if Dr. Charles died or help arrived in time to save his life.

Thankfully, fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the synopsis for season 3 has been recently released by NBC. It turns out the fan-favorite character survived the shooting and will soon continue working at the hospital.

"Dr. Sarah Reese continues her psychiatry residency under Dr. Charles," the new synopsis hints, "despite new reservations in the wake of her mentor's assault."

Meanwhile, reports confirmed last week that Malcolm McDowell has joined the cast. The veteran actor will take on the role of Dr. Jaffrey, a world-renowned heart surgeon. He is also the mentor of Dr. Bekkar (Norma Kuhling), who was first introduced at the end of season 2 as Dr. Rhodes' (Colin Donnell) latest rival in the workplace. The "A Clockwork Orange" star is slated to appear on the ninth episode of the season.

"Chicago Med" has been picked up for a third season in May alongside franchise siblings "Chicago P.D." and "Chicago Fire." Prior to the renewal, there had been some rumors that one of the newer "Chicago" programs will be cancelled. NBC later announced that rookie "Chicago Justice" will no longer have a second season, while "Chicago Med" was confirmed for a midseason debut.

The third season of "Chicago Med" premieres Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
