Chicago Shooting: 8 More Victims on Monday Following Deadly Weekend
Chicago's shooting problems have not ended after a bloody weekend of violence, and on Monday at least eight other people were shot on the South and West sides of the city, according to authorities.
The latest shootings began at around 1.15 p.m. local time when a 21 year old man was shot in the 11000 block of South Ashland Avenue in the Morgan Park neighborhood.
The man survived the shooting but was rushed in what was described as a "serious to critical condition" to the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to Chicago Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez.
In a separate shooting incident about 30 minutes later in Englewood, a Shell gas station worker called 911 near the 6600 block of South Wentworth Avenue when he saw an 18 year old gunshot victim pull up on his bike with a bloody wound to his side, shouting "call 911."
That man was rushed to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, authorities have reported.
In yet another shooting just before 3 p.m. a 17 year old was shot in the leg in the Far South Side's West Pullman neighborhood. He was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for urgent treatment, and it is said his condition stabilized through medical care.
Later that night at about 7.45 p.m. another 17 year old was shot in the stomach on the 800 block of North Leamington Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side. That teen was rushed to Stroger hospital in a critical condition.
Just minutes later, just before 8 p.m., an 18 year old woman was shot in the buttocks in the 9700 block of South LaSalle Street in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side. That incident was said to be a drive-by shooting. She was taken to Stroger in a serious condition.
Just after 9.30 p.m. two men were shot on the 7300 block of South Woodlawn Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side. The victims in that incident were said to be a 21 year old man, and a 22 year old man. Both survived the drive-by shooting and were in stable conditions in separate hospitals.
Just before 10 p.m. another apparent shooting saw an 18 year old wounded in the 2300 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
