Chris Paul Injury Update: Veteran PG to Miss Game Against Former Team LA Clippers
Veteran point guard Chris Paul, also known as CP3, will miss his supposed reunion game against his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers, due to an injury.
The Houston Rockets is set to face the Clippers in a homecourt game on Friday. However, Paul's highly anticipated first game against his old team will have to wait as he needs to sit out the upcoming match.
CP3 is currently suffering from a sore left adductor that he acquired from their previous game against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Rockets lost the said game, 116-122.
In an interview on Thursday, Paul confirmed he was going to miss Friday night's game and told reporters (via ESPN): "I wish I could play tomorrow. God knows I wish I could play tomorrow, but it's a marathon."
"It's tough, and it's not just about playing against the Clippers," Paul added. "It's the way that we've been building and getting back out there. And I love to hoop more than anything. That's my happy place. It's tough, it's tough."
During the Rockets' game against the Lakers, Houston head coach Mike D'Antoni shared that Paul felt a pang in his now-injured left adductor during the third quarter. The player tried to get on with the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter but quickly decided it would be best to leave the game.
D'Antoni said Paul was "smart enough" to decide that he needed to sit out the rest of their game against the Lakers. "He could have played on it, but then he would have been out a lot longer. So he should be OK. I don't know what that means, exactly how many days, but right now it's day-to-day and we'll see what happens," the Rockets coach added.
Fans who are hoping to see Paul play against the Clippers will have to wait until the teams' next matchup on Jan. 15, 2018 in Staples Center.
The nine-time NBA All-Star player is currently averaging 17.1 points, 9.0 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game this season.
This is the first season that basketball fans see Paul in a Houston Rockets uniform after previously playing for the Clippers for six years.
