Chris Rock Divorce: Comedian Files for Divorce From Malaak Compton-Rock

Another Hollywood couple has called it quits.

Chris Rock and Malaak Compton-Rock are going on their separate ways after 19 years of marriage. They have two children together, Lola, 12, and Zahra, 10.

"After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways. Being fortunate enough to lead a life of service by working with those most vulnerable makes me well aware of life's blessings, even when faced with difficulties," Malaak said on a statement on Dec. 28 to People magazine.

"While recognizing that this is a significant change, my children remain at the center of my life and their well-being is my top priority. It is in this spirit that I sincerely ask that their privacy and the privacy of our family be respected during this transition in our lives," she added.

Meanwhile, Chris' attorney, Robert S. Cohen, also confirmed that the couple has parted ways.

"Chris Rock has filed for divorce from his wife, Malaak. This is a personal matter and Chris requests privacy as he and Malaak work through this process and focus on their family," the statement read.

The pair got married in 1996. In 2007, there was speculation that their marriage was on the rocks but the comedian denied this and said that they were "happy". In 2010, the couple was hounded by reports that Chris had fathered a child out of wedlock.

A source told People Magazine, "This was a long time coming. Chris has known it wasn't salvageable for a while. He was the one to file because he knew it was time to just move forward already."

In divorce papers seen by TMZ, Chris is reportedly asking for shared legal and physical custody of their children.
