CM Punk News: WWE Doctor Continues Legal Challenge Against Former WWE Superstar And Colt Cabana
A new update about the ongoing lawsuit filed against former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar CM Punk by company doctor Chris Amann has been released.
In February 2015, Dr. Amann filed a lawsuit against both Punk (Phil Brooks in real life) and podcast host Colt Cabana for some comments made about the doctor. Punk appeared on Cabana's podcast in November 2014 where he made a tell-all interview about his grievances with the WWE.
In a February 2015 report by Between The Ropes, Dr. Amann is suing both men, where he is seeking $1 million in compensatory damages, along with "undetermined punitive damages." During the podcast, Punk told the story of how a lump on his skin was misdiagnosed by Dr. Amann, noting that the latter refused to have it removed.
Punk described the condition as a lump that "grew to the size of a baseball," and was "purple and morphed into a life-threatening" staph infection. Dr. Amann went on to claim that what was said during the November 2014 episode of the said podcast were "false" and "defamatory" and "insinuated the doctor's lack of integrity."
In a September report by the Inquistr, Punk and Cabana responded to Dr. Amann's lawsuit, claiming that the doctor "coordinated and conspired with the WWE in bad faith," as a response to both men for the "embarrassment" it brought to the company.
The excerpt of their statement also adds that the plaintiff is fully aware that Punk's remarks in the podcast are "true and/or substantially true."
In a recent report by Wrestling News Post, new court documents have been released that offer new updates on the case. While it did not specify what these documents are, the report says the court has been getting the case moving.
"Presiding Judge Janet Brosnahan continued the case to February 1, 2016 and both sides will go into the Discovery phase," an excerpt of the report reads.
Currently signed with the UFC, Punk was supposed to make his Octagon debut by the end of 2015, but an injury during training forced him to the sidelines. He is now preparing for his first UFC fight, which has been rescheduled to 2016.
