Columbus Short Arrested: 'Scandal' Actor Says He Was Not Involved in Fight, God is 'Author' of His Life
Actor Columbus Short has spoken out about his recent arrest and claims that he was not involved in the fight that led to the arrest. Short also noted that his divorce is nearly final and said that God is the "author" of his life.
Short was arrested early Saturday morning in Dallas, Texas for public intoxication. He was reportedly involved in a fight and taken into custody but later released.
"I think there's a time when your personal life gets magnified by who we are as celebrities," Short told "Access Hollywood" in an interview. "I was involved in no fight."
Short said that what actually happened was that he went to the restroom and when he returned, there was a fight already underway. Police thought he was involved and arrested him "for no justifiable reason at all. I wasn't acting intoxicated. I had had a couple of drinks, but whatever, I was angry and I used my vocabulary to kind of fight that."
He also clarified rumors that he had been fired from the hit show "Scandal" due to his legal issues surrounding the alleged suicide-murder threat made against his wife, Tanee. Short has said all along that it was his decision to leave the series and that he was ready to move on and work on other projects.
The show "did not throw me to the curb like trash," Short said in the interview. "That's my family. We're a family and I think at a certain point when you're getting a barrage of stories after stories, ABC justifiably would want to distance themselves."
"I have enjoyed every single minute of it," Short previously told Us Weekly. "Everything must come to an end … I wish nothing but the best for Shonda, Kerry, and the rest of the cast, who have become like a second family to me in such a short amount of time."
His character will not be recast, Shonda Rhimes, creator of the series, told the public after Short announced his exit.
Short explained that his time on "Scandal" was over and "the chapter is closed. There's a new chapter, and I'm not the author of this, God is. But I know that chapter is closed and I'm excited for the next one."
