Conor McGregor News: Ex-Champ Frankie Edgar Wants To Fight 'The Notorious' At Lightweight And Featherweight
Former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is willing to do whatever it takes just to get a shot at featherweight champion Conor McGregor.
"The Answer" was guaranteed the next title shot at 145-pounds, after he made quick work of two-time title challenger Chad Mendes at the Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale on December 11th, a day before UFC 194.
Unfortunately for him, the UFC opted to go towards another direction, after McGregor defeated long-time champion José Aldo within 13 seconds to subsequently bag the undisputed featherweight title.
When "The Notorious" instead chose to challenge UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, the company heeded to this request and booked the fight as the headliner for UFC 197 on March 5th in Las Vegas.
Being suddenly passed over for a fight despite being promised is nothing new to the UFC. But the said incident has rightfully left Edgar in disarray. In a recent interview with FOX Sports, Edgar once again expressed his sheer disappointment on the matter.
But this time around, he was more optimistic about getting the shot he has been asking for, noting that he would be doing whatever it takes just to get it.
"I think that's the fight most people are interested in seeing and I'm hoping the UFC does the right thing and books me and Conor for UFC 200."
A victory for McGregor at UFC 197 makes him the first fighter in company history to simultaneously hold different belts from two weight classes at the same time. This is a scenario that Edgar says he welcomes, as he believes it is the next money fight.
He even went as far as declaring that he would be willing to fight McGregor back-to-back, to challenge both the 155-pound and 145-pound belts.
"We can do it back-to-back and that will be UFC 204 or whatever, that would be the next biggest fight," Edgar said. "I'm game. If they let me get my hands on him once, I'll definitely re-do it."
