Conor McGregor News: Irishman Describes Lightweight Title Fight Vs. Dos Anjos As 'Easy Work'
With still two months ahead of his UFC lightweight title fight against champion Rafael dos Anjos, featherweight champion Conor McGregor has begun the trash talk.
"The Notorious" is scheduled to face the Brazilian champion at UFC 197 on March 5, making him a possible two-division UFC champion if he does emerge victorious.
The UFC's decision to pit McGregor against dos Anjos has drawn the ire of former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, who was initially promised a 145-pound title shot by none other than UFC president Dana White himself.
White made the said statement after "The Answer's" victory over two-time featherweight title contender Chad Mendes at The Ultimate Fighter 22 finale on December 11th, a day prior to McGregor's fight against former long-time champion José Aldo at UFC 194.
After McGregor knocked Aldo out within 13 seconds of the fight using a single straight left, the brash Irishman immediately demanded for a shot at the lightweight title. White initially opposed the idea of McGregor holding two titles at once, but after some time, he did give in.
"If anybody can do it, Conor McGregor can," White said in a January 6 report by MMA Fighting. "This guy has pretty done everything he said he would do. I'm interested."
White adds that it was also McGregor's ability to back up his bold statements by actually pulling them off which made him decide to make an exception for this particular case. McGregor had predicted a first round knockout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 178 in September 2014.
He did end the bout at the 1:46 mark of the first round.
This time around, McGregor already has bold statements for his upcoming fight. In a recent Facebook post, he describes his fight against dos Anjos as "another night of easy work."
"I don't just own the game," McGregor wrote to end his lengthy post. "I run it too."
