Conor McGregor News: Ken Shamrock Boldly Brands Irishman As Today's Number One Pound-For-Pound Fighter
For UFC 1 legend and mixed martial arts veteran Ken Shamrock, reigning featherweight champion Conor McGregor is the sport's top pound-for-pound fighter today.
According to the UFC's own list of pound-for-pound fighters, "The Notorious" is situated at the number three spot, behind former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at number two, and current flyweight king Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson at the top spot.
But according to Shamrock, McGregor is the number one fighter, pound-for-pound, especially after his victory over former long-time 145-pound champion José Aldo at UFC 194 last December 12th in Las Vegas.

"Without a doubt, Conor McGregor (is number 1 pound-for-pound)," Shamrock said in a report by Bloody Elbow. "His knockout over Aldo, for me clinched it. It's just crazy. I mean Aldo, that guy is just great, and see what he did there."
The 28-year old Irish prizefighter knocked out his Brazilian opponent within 13 seconds of the fight, marking the fastest stoppage in UFC title fight history. Rousey's 14-second finish of Cat Zingano last March comes in at close second. McGregor is currently holding an impressive streak in his professional career.
With a record of 19-2 (with 18 victories by stoppage), he has remained undefeated in the UFC since he signed with the company in April 2013. After his momentous win over Aldo, McGregor then went on to reveal his intentions of moving up to lightweight to fight for Rafael Dos Anjos' title. Multiple reports claim that the UFC has indeed granted McGregor the said fight.
McGregor's brash talking personality has granted him the fights that he wanted, despite fans' opposition.
This is one factor that Shamrock feels the young champion should be wary about. The 51-year old fighter also noted that McGregor should keep himself grounded, despite the influx of accolades that have come his way since winning the title.
"I just hope he controls himself," Shamrock said. "Like I said, it's a hard drug he's facing right now. All this stuff, everyone's patting him on the back, because what he did is pretty incredible."
