'Constantine' Episode 11 'A Whole World Out There' Recap

Last Friday on "Constantine" a group of students play a dangerous game that ends in tragedy and John and an old friend team up to save them.

"A Whole World Out There" starts with a group of college students— Carter, Adam, Lily, and Miranda— drinking and joking, and they decide to try to summon a demon in. All four of them are transported to an old house, and they all see a man. They run into each other, a pot breaks, and they are transported back home.

Manny visits John at the mill house and tells him that he has a friend who needs him. John heads over to the local college and finds Ritchie teaching about transcendence. The four students from the séance are there, and one of them sees the man from the old house, and the boy, Carter, is transported back there. In the house, the man suffocates him with a plastic bag. In the classroom, Carter collapses.

Ritchie is not happy to see John because he broke his promise not to see Ritchie ever again. But John says he's there to help him. Then Adam calls Ritchie and says that he won't be in because his friend Carter died. Lily sees the old man in the mirror, and she tells Miranda about it.

John asks Lily what happened and they head back to the cemetery. John finds something on the ground and mutters an incantation to see what it is.

Meanwhile, Miranda is practicing ballet when she sees the man in the mirror. She's transported and sees Carter at the house, who warns her to get out before the man comes back to get her.

Constantine tells Ritchie what he found, and Ritchie says that Jacob Shaw's journal is missing from his bookshelf. It turns out that Shaw was a criminal, and while he was in custody he became catatonic and mentally traveled to another realm.

Desperate to rescue Miranda, Adam transports to the house, and he finds Miranda with a knife deep in her stomach. She tells him to hide. Lily finds Miranda's body in the real world. In the realm, Shaw finds Adam and cuts him up, and in the real world, his body starts bleeding, and this is the state in which John and Ritchie find him.

Later, Lily is transported to Shaw's realm. John and Ritchie transports to save her, and Ritchie thinks that with his mind, he can change Shaw's world. He creates a door with his mind. They walk into the room and find Shaw.

With his mind, Shaw pins John to the wall and slashes Ritchie's wrists. Ritchie creates a sun outside the house, which changes the surroundings, and destroys Shaw. They rescue Lily and go back to the real world.

Ritchie says that he's going to create and stay in a new world where the Rising Darkness won't get him, but John doesn't like this idea. In the end, Ritchie stays and goes back to teaching.

"Constantine" airs on Fridays at 10 p.m. on NBC.
