'Constantine' Trailer Video for New TV Show Released: Less Keanu, More Snarky Exorcist Hero (WATCH)
The "Constantine" trailer video for the new NBC TV series was released Sunday, and the network's latest foray into supernatural television features Matt Ryan as the titular exorcist. Many people are excited about the series, which is less the 2005 movie starring Keanu Reeves and more like the comic book on which it's based, Hellblazer.
The "Constantine" trailer video for the TV show begins with Matt Reeves' John Constantine checking himself into a mental hospital— fans of the comic book will recognize it as Ravenscar Hospital, where the dark hero was previously committed.
"Before you checked yourself in here, you were working an Exorcist and Master of the Dark Arts?" a psychiatrist says dubiously.
"That says master, does it?" Constantine replies. "I should really change that to petty dabbler. I would hate to put on airs."
From there, other characters are introduced into the occult world like Lucy Griffiths as Liv Aberdine, a woman who can suddenly see the trapped souls of the dead walking among the living. At one particularly scary moment, Aberdine even witnesses her dead nana come back to life to haunt her.
They're "souls, trapped, searching for a way out. Now that you can see these things they can see you. And they don't like to be seen," Constantine warns.
Harold Perrineau of "Lost" and "The Matrix" films plays Manny a fallen angel with hidden intentions.
The trailer is filled with supernatural enemies like ghosts, demons and we even get a glimpse of a girl Constantine accidentally damned to hell.
This blonde, snarky and dark version of Constantine has so far been a big hit with those who have seen the trailer. The Huffington Post called NBC's new series trailer "devilishly fantastic" and Yahoo.com said it seems "Matt Ryan is playing [the character] a lot closer to the source." The one standing criticism wasn't of the trailer, but of NBC itself— the network already has some shows dealing with the supernatural.
"NBC has 'Grimm' and 'Hannibal,'" one user wrote on the Huffington Post blog, while another asked "Why are there so many shows with the occult?"
"Constantine" will air in the fall of this year on Fridays. To see the trailer click below (WARNING: Adult content).
