'Criminal Minds' Season 13 News: Shemar Moore Returns as Morgan in Upcoming Episode
A familiar face is returning to the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU).
Shemar Moore will be reprising his role as Derek Morgan on an upcoming episode of "Criminal Minds" season 13, reports confirmed. The "S.W.A.T." star is slated to appear as a guest star on the CBS procedural drama following his stint in season 12. He will appear in the current season's fifth episode, which airs on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
The 47-year-old actor was a series regular on "Criminal Minds" from 2005 to 2016, after a total of 11 seasons and 252 episodes. In his last episode, Derek had survived a dangerous kidnapping. He decided to leave the BAU in the end to prioritize his personal life and family.
Entertainment Weekly notes that Derek will make another appearance to help his good friend Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) deal with a case that had a huge effect on her life. Further details about the episode's storyline are still being kept under wraps.
At the time he left the series, Moore said being on the CBS program for over a decade helped him become better at his chosen craft. However, comparing his stint on "Criminal Minds" to college, Moore explained that he wanted to eventually move on and explore new possibilities.
"I'm very happy with what I've accomplished, but I want to take another step," he told E! News. "I'm just hungry like that. I want to see what else I can do."
He also admitted that he is open to reprising his role in the future if there was an offer. "I'm not opposed to those doors opening up again," he added. "Now, it may not be permanently, and it may not be for a full season, but if there's an opportunity to go back and dance and play, I wouldn't be opposed to that."
The 13th season of "Criminal Minds" airs every Wednesday night at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
