'Cruel Intentions' TV Remake Update: Sarah Michelle Gellar Speculated to Reprise Role, Plot to Take Place After 15 Years

The 1999 American drama film "Cruel Intentions" is getting a revival. According to a report by Out, the movie, which starred Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Philippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar, has been ordered for a remake by network NBC. This means that fans of the 90's cult classic film will be getting a continuation of the story through a television series.

As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, the plot of the upcoming TV remake will take place 15 years after the end events of the original movie. It will feature the return of the "beautiful and cunning" Kathryn Merteuil who was played by Gellar in the film. It is said that she will be fighting for control of Valmont International while also trying to control Bash Casey, the son of her late stepbrother Sebastian Valmont and Annette Hargrove.

If there are fans who are confused with the existence of Bash, it's not a surprise since the original movie did not say anything about Annette's pregnancy when she drove off after Sebastian's funeral. But she did have with her Sebastian's journal, which Bash will get hold of despite being hidden. Australia Network detailed that Bash will leave Kansas for San Francisco to go to Brighton Preparatory Academy. In there, he will be exposed to money, power, corruption and sex.

As for the cast, it's not confirmed yet but there may be a possibility that Gellar will reprise her role as the merciless queen bee Merteuil. Deadline reported that Gellar has already been approached about once again playing Kathryn. It also said that she is already reading the script but fans should not put their expectations too high as it's not yet known if it will happen or not.

As of now, the only thing that is confirmed is that Roger Kumble will be part of the remake as an executive producer. Kumble is the original writer and director of the film.
