Darius Rucker Racist Tweet: Former Hootie and the Blowfish Singer Responds to Racist Twitter Post (VIDEO)
Darius Rucker has responded to a racist tweet, sparking backlash among some who are asking who he even bothered to bring more attention to the racist social media comment.
Rucker, who is becoming increasingly recognized for his recent contributions to the country music genre, was sent a tweet from one Twitter user who posted, "@dariusrucker Leave country to the white folk."
Rucker responded to the tweet saying, "WOW. Is this 2013 or 1913."

He also later added, "I'll take my Grand Ole Opry membership and leave your racism."
The account of the person who posted the original tweet has since been disabled, but the short exchange has had fans talking, with some rebuking the singer for bringing increased attention to the poster, where as some others have praised him for calling out the Twitter user for his racist comments.
Indeed, one fan even directly questioned why Rucker had responded to the tweet, and the singer responded by saying that he did it so the world could see them, and raise more awareness of such comments.
Rucker has been pushing himself into the country music genre, and has received some mixed reviews for his work so far.
The singer is best known for his work with Hootie and the Blowfish, but has increasingly made his love for country music known. His 2008 song "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" established Rucker as the first African American since 1983 to reach the top of the country charts.
Since then he has also had a number of other successful songs, and has even won the Country Music Association Award for Best New Artist.
