'Destiny 2' News: Bungie Addresses 'Three of Coins' Backlash; Explains the Game Feature Is Bugged

After facing backlash from confused players, "Destiny 2" game developer Bungie issued a statement clarifying how the consumable Three of Coins work and confirmed that the game feature currently had bugs.

When game merchant Xur made his appearance last weekend, Bungie introduced the Three of Coins that could be purchased for 31 Legendary Shards.

In its in-game description, the Three of Coins was advertised as a feature that could increase a player's chances of receiving Exotic Engram while playing. However, hundreds of disgruntled "Destiny 2" players voiced their disappointment after not getting any Exotic item despite using the Three of Coins while playing.

One player said he used the Three of Coins along with a Fireteam Medallion and "played heroic strikes for four hours straight" and did not get any Exotic item. In a follow-up post, the same gamer said after trying the same combination again, he was able to get a Transversive Steps leg armor. However, he added: "Which I got from Xur's engram earlier today."

In a recent blog post, Bungie said: "When players use a Three of Coins consumable, this provides a 50% increase to the base chance of being rewarded an Exotic Engram upon activity completion. Using this consumable does not guarantee an Exotic reward upon completing a set number of activities – but rather increased chances upon each activity completion."

Meanwhile, in the same developer's note, Bungie addressed the issue players have been reporting on Heroic Strikes.

According to the game developer, they can confirm that the Heroic Strikes were not giving out as much Exotics Engram as it should even with the Three of Coins, especially compared to Vanguard Strikes.

"We're looking to address this with a future Hotfix, expected in early 2018," Bungie promised.

Despite Bungie's post, many players still demanded specific answers as to what factors affect the Three of Coins. One player commented: "Please tell us what those base chances are, how they are changed and when. ... For ToC and... everything. MAKE YOUR TOOLTIPS CLEAR AND STOP BEING SO VAGUE AND SECRETIVE ABOUT THE GAME MECHANICS."

"Destiny 2" is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
